The Hunt movie made a storm when the Universal cancelled the controversial movie earlier this month in the wake up call of recent mass shooting. The movie is also criticized by the president Donald Trump. But the producer Jason Blum is still in the hope that movie will be released in the future.
The Hunt, produced by Blumhouse, the independent film house which has contributed to the Hollywood industry with the low- budget movies like Paranormal Activity and the Purge as well as Oscar winner Blackkklansman. The news of the decision was first disclosed by the Hollywood Reporter. The film was originally named Red state VS Blue state.
In The Movie People Hunt Other People For Sports
The movie was set to release in September. Film is about the group wealthy rich American elites who hunt people for sports. However, the hunter being hunted as one of the prey knows the game better than they do. As per the Rotten Tomatoes and The Hollywood Reporter. The President Donald Trump very much criticized the movie before the released.
In an interview, the vulture asked about the release of the movie in the future. Blum said there was definitely a chance, finger crossed.
On August 10 Universal announced the release of the movie ‘ The Hunt’ has been cancelled and the marketing campaign is stopped. The studio said they are with the producer and also know this is the not right time to release movie just the days after mass shooting in Texas and Ohio.
The Universal have pulled The Hunt because it didn’t think it could successfully market a violent just after the weeks of two mass shooting in the country. Universal may also have the concern about the President criticism on the movie.
On the surface, The Hunt doesn’t seem that different from Hunger Games or The Purge, which inspired the politically confrontational sequels. Looking at the trailer it didn’t seem so violent. Although trailers are being pulled back from the television and internet after the controversy surrounding the after the President Trump backlash the movies in his twitter.
Blum said, ‘I learned lessons from mistakes”. Further added we made a marketing mistakes and many more mistakes in the process. But if I was offered the choice to makethe movie again, I would say yes.
Hillary Swank Backs The Cancellation
In a statement to USA TODAY by Marla Farrell the film’s star Hillary swank backed the cancellation. She said that she fully supports the decision made by the Universal and filmmakers about The Hunt. She further added I also felt it was necessary. I can’t appreciate the violence happening in our country.
We should all believe in healing and moreover we should be kind to each other. Day before the studio cancelled the movie, Swank told the reporter at Locarno film festival in Switzerland that she can’t comment on the movie. According variety, Swank said that you can’t have a conversation unless and until you have seen the movie. Having conversation about the movie is such a pointless.
President Trump Criticises Hollywood
Since the Trump didn’t name the movie he is criticizing but he labelled Hollywood as ‘racist’. He tweeted, “Liberal Hollywood is racist at the highest level, and with great anger and hate”. “They like to call themselves Elite but they are not elite. In fact, it’s the people that they strongly oppose that they are actually elite”, He further tweeted. The president also said that the movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos.
They create their own violence and then later try to blame others. They are true racists and are so bad for our country.
He continued his attack while talking to reporters. He said: “Hollywood I don’t call them elites. I think the elites are the people whom they go after in many cases. But Hollywood is really terrible”. All these controversies have helped the movie gain mainstream attention.
And whenever it pops up at Theatre, the audiences will go and watch the movie. Sooner or later The Hunt will come in the theatre. We can only wait for the movie to be released. And I am sure it will do great business in the box office collection.
